Werewolf Paranormal Romance Books

What is a Werewolf?

The legends of werewolves are as old as human civilization. The werewolf or lycanthrope in folkloric tradition is a person who changes into a wolf, or a wolf-like creature, usually at night, and either by magical means or because of being bitten by another werewolf. This transformation is often associated with the appearance of the full moon, as popularly recognized today.

There are many different legends of werewolves. Some legends claim that werewolves are humans who have been cursed by a witch to become wolves, some believe that werewolves are humans who have been bitten by a werewolf and are now able to change themselves into wolves, or some believe that humans and werewolves are two different species that are able to change into each other.

Another long-standing myth that werewolf stories have to do with people who get bitten by a werewolf and then turn into one. But, there is no evidence that the myth was originally based on real events or that any real people were ever bitten by werewolves. Rather, it seems that many of the werewolf myths come from people thinking about how to get rid of the problem of an infected person. (And many of these people seem to be priests or doctors.) In a time when people didn’t understand diseases as well as we do now, we see the same sort of attempts to control the problem in the medical community and in the church.
